The Task Force police on Sunday apprehended a man for allegedly illegally procuring and storing Public Distribution System (PDS) rice in Hasanparthy and seized 19 quintals of rice worth ₹57,000.
Acting on credible information about the illegal dumping of PDS rice, the Task Force team conducted a raid at the residence of Vallepu Sambaraju (39), a resident of Adarshanagar Colony in Hasanparthy. During the operation, officials seized the PDS rice along with a digital weighing machine.
During questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to purchasing PDS rice at lower prices from various areas in Hasanparthy mandal and selling it at higher rates for profit, police said.
The seized rice and the accused were handed over to Hasanparthy police for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of ACP (Task Force) A. Madhusudhan, with the participation of Inspector K. Sridhar, Sub-Inspector T. Veeraswamy and other members of the Task Force team.
