Kanpur: A 38-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his friend over the theft of a bundle of beedi and ₹150 on June 3, police said on Friday.According to police, late on the night of June 3, a blood-stained body of a labourer was found in Labour Mandi near the Indira Gandhi statue on Meston Road.The deceased was later identified as Vishal alias Ravi, 35, who worked as a labourer in Coolie Bazar and on Meston Road. He made a living while staying on the footpath.According to DCP (East) Satyajit Gupta, CCTV footage revealed the involvement of the accused, following which he was arrested.During interrogation, the accused, identified as Asharfilal alias Raju, 38, confessed to the murder, police said.He told police that the deceased used to steal money and beedi from his pocket. On the night of the incident, he allegedly stole his bundle of beedi and ₹150. The accused said that when he objected, the deceased abused him. In a fit of anger, he killed him by crushing his head with a brick while he was asleep, and then fled.Police said the accused was produced in court on Friday afternoon and sent to jail.
