Man held for taking SUV loan in estranged wife’s name using girlfriend to impersonate her

Bijnor: A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly securing a loan and purchasing a sports utility vehicle (SUV) by fraudulently using his estranged wife’s identity documents.

The accused also made his girlfriend impersonate his wife during the vehicle’s delivery.Accused Mohd Farhan, son of a local steel trader and resident of Bukhara locality in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on June 25 and has been remanded to judicial custody. The matter came to light after Farhan’s estranged wife, Rukhsar, a resident of Batla House in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar, discovered the transaction and filed a police complaint.

Rukhsar alleged that Farhan, alongside his brother Salim and an associate, Alka Yadav, forged her signature and misappropriated her personal documents to deceive dealership employees and bank officials.According to the complaint, Farhan made Alka Yadav—alleged to be his girlfriend—pose as Rukhsar at a vehicle showroom in Meerut to complete the delivery paperwork. Rukhsar stated that she was in Mumbai on the day of the delivery and had absolutely no knowledge of or involvement in the transaction.

Circle officer Abhay Kumar Pandey confirmed that the couple is already embroiled in bitter matrimonial disputes, including ongoing cases related to domestic violence, dowry harassment and a pending divorce petition.Following a preliminary investigation that verified Rukhsar’s claims, Kotwali City police registered a case. Farhan was apprehended, and investigators added fresh charges of criminal conspiracy after tracing the operational flow of the fraud. The Bijnor police stated that the investigation is ongoing, with dedicated teams currently deployed to trace and apprehend the remaining co-accused named in the FIR.
