The police on Saturday (June 14) arrested a 50-year-old man who allegedly installed a camera phone inside the washroom of a women’s accommodation at Kuttiyadi in Kozhikode district. The accused, identified as Mohammed Aslam, was taken into custody on Friday (June 13).
He was charged under Sections 77 (punishment for voyeurism) and 79 (punishment for word, gesture, or act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Relevant sections of the Information Technology Act were also invoked, police said.
According to police sources, the man, who was running a medical laboratory in Kuttiyadi, was caught red-handed after a woman spotted him near the washroom and alerted residents. Some of the women residing at the rented facility were reportedly working at the suspect’s medical lab. They have since been shifted to another building.
