Man held with 150 kg gutka in Vellore

A 27-year-old man was arrested after the Sathuvachari police seized 150 kg of gutka from an SUV during a vehicle check on Chennai-Bengaluru Highway near Katpadi on Thursday.

The arrested person has been identified as C. Ramesh, a native of Rajasthan.

The police intercepted his SUV during a surprise vehicle check, conducted on the orders of Superintendent of Police (Vellore) N.U. Sivaraman, near the Office of the Collectorate in Perumugai village.

The police said Ramesh had come from Bengaluru to deliver the consignment to traders in Chennai and its suburbs.

A case was registered and Ramesh was lodged at the Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
