Man Killed After Container Falls Off Truck In Gujarat’s Valsad

Officials said the incident happened while labourers were eating inside the structure; some escaped, but one man failed to get out in time and was crushed under the container.

A man was crushed to death after a container fell off a moving truck in Gujarat on Friday, police said, triggering panic among bystanders and briefly disrupting traffic in the area.

The container landed on a makeshift structure where the victim was eating.

According to officials, two makeshift structures had been erected at a construction site next to National Highway 48 in Valsad’s Pardi.

CCTV footage shows the truck swerving off the highway onto the unpaved shoulder, after which the container fell from the vehicle and crashed onto one of the structures.

Footage from a nearby office shows a man cleaning his mobile phone when the truck speeds past him at close range. He quickly steps away as the container crashes down nearby, causing the office furniture to shake after it narrowly misses the building.

Officials said that the incident occurred when the labourers from the construction site were having food inside the structure. Some of them managed to run, but one man could not make it out in time and got crushed under the container, NDTV reported.

Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot and used a crane to remove the container.

“A truck carrying a container was turning onto a dirt road when the driver lost control and the container fell off. An investigation has been initiated," said an official.
