A man shot dead his live-in partner in broad daylight on Friday afternoon, a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through one of Gwalior’s most upscale neighbourhoods.

The incident took place in front of the iconic Roop Singh Stadium, where the accused, identified as Arvind, stopped his girlfriend, Nandini, in the middle of the road, pulled out a pistol, and fired multiple bullets into her face.

Witnesses say the scene was nothing short of terrifying.

After firing three point-blank shots, Arvind calmly sat beside the blood-soaked body, waving his gun and daring anyone to approach. The area plunged into panic as pedestrians fled and traffic ground to a halt.

The police, alerted by terrified onlookers, rushed to the spot. But the drama only escalated. Arvind pointed his pistol at the cops, forcing them to fire tear gas shells and cordon off the area, NDTV reported.

After a tense standoff, he was overpowered by police, beaten, and taken into custody. Nandini, critically injured and bleeding heavily, was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead during treatment.

“I was just coming from court when I heard gunshots. I saw him fire three bullets, one after the other, right into her. People were frozen in fear; nobody dared catch him," NDTV quoted a lawyer, MP Singh, a witness, as saying.

CSP Nagendra Singh Sikarwar confirmed that Arvind had tried to intimidate the police with his weapon.

The gun has been seized, and forensic teams are investigating.

SP Dharamveer Singh said the accused is a contractor who shared a complicated history with Nandini. Both had previous marriages that ended before they began living together. Nandini later accused Arvind of concealing his first marriage and children, and also claimed he had deceitfully “married" her at an Arya Samaj temple.

But the relationship was marred by violence and betrayal.

According to the records, Nandini had filed multiple complaints against Arvind.

In November 2024, she accused him and an associate, Pooja Parihar, of assaulting her. She also survived an alleged murder attempt when Arvind reportedly tried to run her over with a car.

Though arrested, Arvind secured bail, and the cycle of abuse continued.

Just days before her death, on September 9, Nandini had walked into the SP’s office with fresh allegations.

Arvind and Pooja allegedly circulated AI-generated pornographic videos and obscene images of her on social media, even sending them to her family. She claimed that Arvind had threatened to kill her if she resisted his advances.

On Friday, as Nandini made her way to the SP’s office yet again, Arvind cornered her in front of Roop Singh Stadium. Enraged, he executed his threat in the most public and brutal fashion possible.

Gwalior’s normally bustling, upscale streets were transformed into a scene of fear and bloodshed.

The brazen daylight crime in a high-profile area, targeting a woman who had repeatedly sought police protection, has raised serious concerns about women’s safety, law enforcement’s responsiveness, and the dangers of unchecked toxic relationships.
