Man, nephew die of snakebite in Barwani village

Times News NetworkBarwani: A man and his nephew died after being bitten by a venomous snake while they were asleep in Megha village under Pati police station limits in Barwani district.“The incident took place early Friday when a snake fell from roof of a mud house onto the bed on which the two were sleeping,” Pati police station in charge Ramdas Yadav told TOI.The snake first bit Rakesh on his wrist. As he reacted to the bite, the snake bit Dharmendra, son of Rakesh’s elder sister, on the waist, Yadav said.“Dharmendra woke up following the bite and alerted family members, telling them he had been bitten by a poisonous creature.

When he tried to wake up Rakesh, he found him in great pain. Rakesh succumbed to the snakebite within 30 minutes,” Yadav said.Family members rushed Dharmendra to a government hospital in Pati , 8 km away , but he died on the way.Pati police carried out a spot inspection and sent both bodies for postmortem examination.The deaths triggered panic and grief in the family and the village. Rakesh’s last rites were performed in Megha village, while Dharmendra was cremated in his native Chandan Devi village.
