A man from Gujarat’s Rajkot fell in love with a “girl" he met on social media. Within a short time, 20-year-old Piyush Kumar started living with Poonam and even married her. However, one day, Piyush allegedly discovered that Poonam was a man after seeing him shaving.

Days later, Piyush allegedly murdered Poonam, who police identified as Chandan Kumar. According to investigators, Chandan had allegedly been posing as a woman on social media for the past three years. The case came to light after police recovered a decomposed body dressed in women’s clothing near the Muscat Phatak railway wall in Rajkot on June 25.

The case was initially treated as an accidental death. However, a post-mortem examination revealed severe head injuries, prompting police to register a murder case.

According to the police, Piyush first came into contact with a person using the name “Nisha Kumar" on Facebook and “Poonam" on Instagram. Investigators said both social media accounts were allegedly operated by Chandan Kumar, who had introduced himself as a woman, Dainik Jagran reported.

Police said the two eventually started living together. According to investigators, Chandan allegedly avoided physical intimacy by citing religious vows. Piyush allegedly accepted Chandan as his wife and even applied sindoor as part of the marriage ritual.

Police said Piyush came to know the truth after he allegedly saw Chandan shaving and realised his partner was a man. According to investigators, the revelation led to frequent arguments, following which Piyush left Chandan and moved away.

However, police claimed Chandan followed Piyush through Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan before reaching a factory in Rajkot’s Padwala area, where Piyush had started working.

On June 21, the two allegedly had another argument at the factory. According to police, Piyush then took Chandan to a deserted spot near a railway track, where he allegedly attacked him with large stones, killing him. Investigators said he hid the body beneath stones before returning to work to complete his shift.

After analysing CCTV footage and gathering other evidence, police arrested Piyush. During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime. Further investigation is underway.
