Man sentenced to 10-year RI in prison in POCSO case

A Fast Track Special Court in Medchal has sentenced a 36-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him in a case involving the sexual assault of a minor girl. The case was registered by the Medchal police in 2015. The court also directed a compensation of ₹1 lakh to be paid to the victim.

The convict, Balbar Adhikari alias Bikas Chatri alias Vikas, was found guilty under Section 376(1) of the IPC and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000.

According to the police, the offence took place on June 13, 2015. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, who was a minor at the time, a case was registered and an investigation was launched.

The accused was arrested on June 15, 2015, and a charge sheet was subsequently filed after completion of the investigation.

Following a full-fledged trial, K. Venkatesh, Fast Track Special Judge for Expeditious Trial and Disposal of Rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act cases, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, convicted the accused and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
