HYDERABAD: A 38-year-old man, Shilarapu Ramesh, a resident of Upparapalli in Peddapalli district, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of a minor. He was also fined Rs 21,000.
The verdict in the POCSO case was delivered by the Fast-Track Special Court at Peddapalli.Ramagundam police said Ramesh was arrested after he committed the crime on June 2, 2022. The victim, a minor, went to stay at her grandparents’ house during summer vacation in Odela mandal. Ramesh saw her playing outside the house, asked her if she wanted to have food, and took her inside. Police said he then gagged the girl and committed the crime on her.
He fled after he committed the crime.Following a complaint lodged by the grandparents at the Pothkapalli police station, a case was registered, and the accused was arrested the same day and sent to judicial remand. On September 2, Fast Track Court Special Judge K Sunitha convicted Ramesh and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine. The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to ensure a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the victim.
