Man sentenced to life imprisonment in Pocso case in Vijayawada

The magistrate also imposed a Rs 10,000 fine and directed the government to provide Rs 4 lakh aid to the victim

Vijayawada: The Tenali special Pocso court on Tuesday sentenced a 34-year-old man to life imprisonment for the sexual assault of an 8-year-old minor girl. The magistrate also imposed a Rs 10,000 fine and directed the government to provide Rs 4 lakh aid to the victim.POCSO court judge Indira Priyadarshini delivered the verdict convicting the accused, identified as Guduri Ramesh, after he was found guilty of the crime.According to police, the incident occurred on June 22, 2022, in Repalle town. The accused, identified as Guduri Ramesh alias Salmon Raju, was working as a painter at the victim's residence. Taking advantage of the victim being home alone while unwell, the accused committed the heinous crime.

The victim’s mother, who was attending to workers outside, discovered the assault after hearing her daughter’s cries.Following the complaint, the Repalle police promptly registered a case under Section 376(AB) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Pocso Act. The investigation was handled by the then-DSP A Srinivasa Rao, who utilised forensic evidence and technical analysis to build an ironclad case.On the occasion, Bapatla SP B Uma Maheshwara lauded the police investigation team and the prosecution for ensuring the accused was convicted in the case.
