Man set ablaze over Rs 300 petrol dues in Gwalior; two arrested

Bhopal: A dispute over Rs 300 in petrol dues turned violent in Gwalior when a 26-year-old man was allegedly doused with petrol and set on fire late Tuesday night.Police have arrested the prime accused, Doli Gurjar, and one of his accomplices, while a third accused remains absconding.The victim, Akash Sengar, suffered 37 per cent burn injuries and is undergoing treatment in the burn ward of Jayarogya Hospital, where his condition remains critical. His father, Ramchandra Sengar, 60, sustained burns on his legs while trying to rescue him from the flames.According to SSP Dharamveer Yadav, three men arrived on a Bullet motorcycle at the spot where Akash sold petrol near Thatipur Square. The accused paid him Rs 100 but also owed him Rs 200 from an earlier purchase.When Akash asked them to clear the total outstanding amount of Rs 300, an argument broke out. During the altercation, one of the accused allegedly poured petrol on Akash and set him ablaze with a lighter before fleeing.Akash, who manages parking at the auto-rickshaw stand in Thatipur and sold petrol at night, was rescued by local residents, who extinguished the flames and rushed him and his father to Jayarogya Hospital.

Police on Wednesday arrested Doli Gurjar, a resident of Dullapur, along with one of his associates. The accused were taken to the crime scene for reconstruction of the incident and were also paraded through the locality.An FIR has been registered and police are examining CCTV footage from the area. A search is on to trace the third accused. Investigators said further action will be taken based on forensic evidence and witness statements.
