Man sexually assaults woman, dump her in well, confesses under alcohol influence

A man has been arrested in Kerala's Thrissur district for allegedly assaulting a 65-year-old woman, who died after being dumped into a well by him, police said.

Officials said the accused, Suresh, told one of his friends about the incident while under the influence of alcohol, following which the matter came to light, and he was taken into custody.

He is a native of Perumbavoor. According to the police, Suresh, who works as a daily-wage worker, lived in a rented house in an isolated area near railway tracks.

Police said he had brought the woman to his house a few days ago. Investigators suspect that an altercation broke out between the two, during which the accused sexually assaulted the woman and left her unconscious.

Believing that she had died, Suresh allegedly dumped her in a nearby well, police said. The incident came to light on Saturday after he allegedly disclosed it to a friend.

After being alerted, police searched Suresh's residence. During the search, they found him there and took him into custody, officials said.

The woman's body was later recovered from the well with the help of Fire and Rescue Services personnel, police said.

Police are also questioning Suresh's friends as part of the investigation.

The victim's body has been shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
