Man shoots mother for stopping him from consuming drugs in Rishikesh; held

Dehradun: A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly shooting at his 63-year-old mother after she objected to his drug use in Rishikesh on Sunday.Police said the accused, Sumit Gaur, is a drug addict and frequently quarrelled with his mother, Usha Devi, who repeatedly urged him to stop consuming drugs and find a job to support the family.“On Sunday evening, the two again had a heated argument over the same issue, following which the accused allegedly fired at his mother with a country-made pistol. Usha sustained a bullet injury to her chest and collapsed on the ground,” said Rishikesh circle officer Tushar Bora.He added, “The woman was immediately taken to AIIMS Rishikesh, where she is undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the accused’s elder brother lodged a complaint against him on Sunday evening. An FIR was registered under BNS section 109(1) (attempt to murder). Further investigation is underway.”
