Man stabs self amid property dispute

Navalgund (Dharwad district): A property dispute took a dramatic turn on Monday when a man allegedly attempted suicide by stabbing himself in the abdomen outside the office of Navalgund MLA NH Konaraddi at the taluk panchayat premises in Navalgund town.

The injured has been identified as Mahantesh Turamari, a resident of Padesur village in Navalgund taluk. According to police, Mahantesh had recently sold a property. A discussion regarding the transaction was underway between him and the buyers in front of the MLA’s office when an argument broke out. As the dispute escalated, Mahantesh, reportedly distressed and enraged, allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed himself in the abdomen in full public view. People at the spot, along with police personnel, immediately rushed him to the Navalgund Taluk Hospital, where he was administered first aid. As his condition was found to be serious, he was later shifted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubballi, for advanced treatment. Officers from Navalgund police station visited the spot, registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
