GURGAON: A 33-year-old man strangled his wife to death following a domestic dispute before dying by suicide by hanging himself in their rented residence in Sector-9 on Sunday late evening.The tragedy came to light when the couple’s 10-year-old son, who was playing in another room during the incident, entered the bedroom and discovered his father’s body.The deceased have been identified as Deepak Kumar and his 28-year-old wife, Sonam Bai. The family originally hailed from Chawar Colony on Khudanpuri Road in Alwar, Rajasthan, and had been living in Gurgaon for work.According to the police, the couple had a heated argument on Sunday night.
In the middle of the night, Kumar strangled Bai and subsequently took his own life. Their minor son, unaware of the violence, was in a separate room at the time. Their son walked into the room to find his father hanging and immediately rushed out to inform a neighbor.The neighbor alerted the police, who arrived at the scene to find both bodies in the room. A forensic team along with sector 9-A police reached the spot. The victims were taken to a local hospital where they were declared dead.
A preliminary inspection of the scene revealed strangulation marks on the woman’s neck, confirming she had been strangled.Investigators stated that a family dispute appears to be the primary motive behind the murder-suicide. The police have moved the bodies to local mortuary for a post-mortem examination, which is scheduled for Monday afternoon. A full investigation into the circumstances leading up to the dispute is currently underway, cops said.
