A government vehicle driver in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur district was arrested for allegedly subjecting his wife to severe physical and mental torture
A government vehicle driver in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur district allegedly assaulted his wife, tied her up, and beat her mercilessly over suspicions of an extramarital affair.
He then shaved her head and smeared black soot on her face in an apparent attempt to publicly humiliate her. The woman further alleged that during the assault, her husband forced her to drink urine and made their children urinate on her face.
According to the complaint, the couple, who entered into a love marriage in 2006, had been facing marital discord for the past year, leading the woman to live separately from her husband.
According to the complaint, the accused also attempted to disgrace her in front of the entire village. The couple's four children, two sons and two daughters, were reportedly present during the incident.
Images and videos related to the alleged abuse have since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread outrage.
The accused, who works as a driver in a government ministry, claimed that his wife had relationships with other relatives and said that this suspicion led him to take the step. However, the woman denied all allegations and accused her husband of subjecting her to prolonged abuse, physical torture, and an attempt on her life.
Taking cognisance of the seriousness of the allegations, police registered a case at police station and arrested the accused. Authorities have initiated further investigation into the matter.
