Scott McTominay doesn’t seem to be losing any sleep over leaving Manchester United. In fact, he’s probably wondering why he didn’t pack his bags for Naples sooner.

The Scotland star has just capped off a dream debut season with Napoli by scooping the Serie A MVP award at the Gran Gala del Calcio. Not a bad way to announce yourself in Italy.

Even better? He was also named in the league’s Team of the Season, joining a list of past MVP winners that includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo, Kaká and Zinedine Zidane. Casual company.

When McTominay stepped up to receive his award, he kept it short and sweet: 13 words, to be exact:

“Coming to Napoli was an easy choice, I came to the right place."

Not exactly much to say, but perhaps his game spoke loudly enough.

Under Antonio Conte, McTominay became a midfield wrecking ball with end product  — nabbing 13 goals and six assists across all competitions — powering Napoli to the 2024/25 Serie A title.

For a player who was often shuffled in and out at United, his glow-up in Italy, both on and off the field, has been nothing short of spectacular.

And it isn’t just club form. The 28-year-old has carried his momentum into the international stage, helping Scotland book their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.

So yes, life after Old Trafford seems to be treating him rather nicely.

At the awards ceremony, McTominay made it clear just how deeply he’s connected with his new footballing home.

“It’s sensational, it’s incredible to be here and win this award," he said. “Thank you to everyone — the team, the staff, my teammates. My bond with Napoli is special; there are so many special places here."

Meanwhile, back in Manchester, United fans are left wondering if the club might have miscalculated just a tiny bit. McTominay left for £25 million, a fee that now looks like pocket change given his Italian renaissance.
