Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes was named the EA Sports Players of the Year for the first time in his illustrious career, to add to his Football writers Players of the season award he had received last week.

Fernandes has led the united charge as the fabled side from Manchester marked their return to the UEFA Champions League with a third-place finish in the English top-flight.

Bruno enjoyed a record season as he picked up 20 assists, the joint-highest in the history of the league drawing level with the legendary Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, with a game left to play.

“I’m very happy for the assist and for the win, and to finish the season on a high," Fernandes said after his 20th assist of the season for teammate Bryan Mbeumo’s goal against Nottingham Forest.

“I got to 20, let’s see [if I can get to 21], we have one more game. It’s the highest I’ve done in the Premier League so I am very happy with it," he had added.

Fernandes, who was handed the FWPOTY award, became the first player from Man United since Wayne Rooney in 2009/10 to win the accolade.

Fernandes stands the chance to shatter the record held by Henry, De Bruyne and himself with a assist in the season’s final game against Aston Villa on Sunday, which would put him in a league of his own.
