Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brentford to sign Bryan Mbeumo, as per reports in the British media.
After weeks of negotiations, Manchester United and Brentford have struck a deal for Bryan Mbeumo, agreeing on a total price of £71 million, including £6 million in add-ons.
Manchester United submitted a third bid for Mbeumo on July 17, reported to be £70 million in total. The final agreed price is £71 million, including add-ons.
A breakthrough to sign Bryan Mbeumo has been long overdue. The transfer saga dragged on for weeks after United’s initial approach for the player on June 2.
United fans were left frustrated that the drawn-out saga resulted in the club caving to Brentford’s demands.
Mbeumo will become United’s most expensive signing under Ineos, with his £65 million initial fee becoming the club’s sixth most expensive of all time.
Mbeumo is due to join United’s tour to the United States, which starts next week, allowing time for the 25-year-old to integrate and understand Amorim’s demands and style.
The fee is an impressive profit for Brentford, who signed Mbeumo from Troyes in 2019 for £5.8 million. He spent two seasons in the Championship before winning promotion and scoring 42 goals in 136 Premier League appearances.
What’s Next For Manchester United After Bryan Mbeumo?
Mbeumo’s potential arrival at the club signals a shift in their strategy towards Premier League talent. Last summer, United heavily invested in securing Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, and Joshua Zirkzee from abroad, with Mason Mount being the only acquisition from England’s top tier. Surprisingly, United is now focusing on the English club scene for their next signing after finishing 15th in the 2024/25 Premier League season. The club also reached the Europa League final but lost to Tottenham.
Given the summer’s expenditures, United aims to secure fees for five players who are not part of Amorim’s plans. Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia wish to leave, and the club has granted them time away from training to explore exits.
