Manchester United are closing in on a key double boost off the pitch.

As per The Athletic, the club is in advanced talks to tie down both Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire to new contracts.

Mainoo Set for Long-Term Future

Mainoo’s situation has seen a dramatic turnaround.

The 20-year-old midfielder, currently contracted until 2027 (with an option for an extra year), is now in line for an extension that could keep him at Old Trafford until 2031, along with a significant pay rise.

That’s a big shift from just months ago.

Under former boss Ruben Amorim, Mainoo had fallen out of favour and was even keen on a loan move away from the club. Despite that, United remained firm in their stance that he was part of their long-term plans.

Since Michael Carrick took charge, however, Mainoo has rediscovered his rhythm, starting every game and earning a recall to the England squad.

Maguire’s Resurgence Rewarded

Meanwhile, Maguire’s revival has been just as significant.

The England centre-back is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, but recent performances have put him firmly back in United’s plans.

With injuries to key defenders disrupting the squad, Maguire has stepped up, delivering consistent displays and reasserting his value as an experienced leader.

While any new deal is likely to come with a reduced salary, a short-term extension appears to suit both player and club, offering stability at the back.

Carrick Effect Driving Change

Both players have been central to United’s resurgence under Carrick, with the club climbing to third in the Premier League table.

The shift in form and confidence has not only revived careers but also reinforced the importance of continuity within the squad.

For United, getting these deals over the line is now a priority, especially with a World Cup on the horizon.
