Manchester United are looking to sign French forward Mohamed Kader Meite, with the team looking to push late into the Premier League season after a topsy-turvy ride that saw them sack yet another coach. Still, over the last week, they have defeated Manchester City and Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Meite, the 18-year-old, is a target for Al-Hilal and the Saudi Pro League team has had a bid rejected already.
As per a report in The Guardian, Meite is viewed as a striker with significant potential and Manchester United are eager to bring him to Old Trafford. The club is prepared to step up its pursuit of the French forward, who has made 19 appearances for Rennes this season.
Al-Hilal lodged a €26 million bid for Meite earlier this week, but Rennes turned it down. The Ligue 1 club are reluctant to part with the teenage forward and are instead in discussions with him over a contract extension.
Meite is under contract with Rennes until 2028 and has been an important figure for the club this season. He has registered three goals and two assists, with United scouts identifying him as a promising fit for the club.
Manchester United brought in Benjamin Šeško at the start of the season and also bagged Chido Obi from Arsenal in 2024. The club are now targeting another teenage forward, who could be in contention for a first-team role next season if the move goes through.
The potential signing could also point to an uncertain future for Rasmus Højlund, who is on loan at Napoli. Questions are being raised over Joshua Zirkzee’s long-term role at the club as well, with the Dutch forward attracting interest from Italian teams in January.
Fresh off a 3-2 win against Arsenal on Sunday, January 25 at the Emirates Stadium, Manchester United will next take on Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, February 1, at Old Trafford.
