‘Mane Manege Police’ (Police to Every Home) was launched in Chamarajanagar district on Tuesday.

The new initiative aimed at establishing people-friendly policing and bridging the gap between citizens and the police department was launched recently by Home Minister G. Parameshwara in Bengaluru.

Superintendent of Police B.T. Kavita inaugurated the programme in Chamarajnagar and said the initiative aims to address grievances and resolve issues at the citizens’ doorsteps. The programme was launched in Ward Beat 15 in Siddharth Nagar.

Ms. Kavita said the police used to act upon the complaints lodged in the stations. Now, under the new programme, police officers and the staff will visit every household to listen to public grievances and provide solutions as per the law. The programme is aimed at resolving citizens’ issues quickly.

Under the programme, each police station jurisdiction in the district has been divided into beats and each beat will cover a cluster of 40-50 houses. A policeman will be looking after each cluster with the ASI and PSI as supervising officers.

The Superintendent of Police urged the public to air complaints or information of crimes reported in and around their homes with the police staff assigned in their locality and who visit their household as part of the initiative. While stating that the confidentiality of the information providers will be ensured, the SP said the public have to extend support to the police in maintaining law and order as the main duty of the police is to protect the interests of the public.

Additional Superintendent of Police M.N. Shashidhar stressed the importance of public cooperation in preventing and detecting crimes.
