In a significant crackdown on suspected Maoist activities, Bihar's STF and local police have made a daring arrest in Giridih, Jharkhand. Pankaj Yadav and Pawan Kumar Singh, both wanted for serious crimes including homicide and illegal arms dealings, were captured while seeking refuge at a relative's house.
Patna: A joint team of Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and police from Nawada and Giridih (Jharkhand) arrested two Maoists late on Saturday night. The Maoists were identified as Pankaj Yadav (22) and Pawan Kumar Singh (23).Police said the duo was hiding at a relative’s house in Manjhlatol village in Giridih district. During the operation, police recovered incriminating materials, including explosives and arms.Pankaj is a resident of Chilkakhar village under Charkapathar police station area in Jamui district, while Pawan hails from Bhagalpur village under Satgawan police station limits in Koderma district of Jharkhand.According to police, Pankaj is accused of several criminal cases, including murder and illegal possession of arms.
He is also suspected to be involved in the killing of former Maoist commander Lakhon Yadav. Pawan too faces charges of murder and illegal possession of arms, added the police.The Bihar Police team was led by STF inspector Ayodhya Prasad.An STF official said the arrests were made following technical surveillance and intelligence inputs. “Police received information through the technical cell that the two were putting up in Manjhlatol village in Giridih. After verifying the input, the STF team reached the village and surrounded the house, leading to their arrest,” the official said.
