Bhopal: The martyrdom day of legendary tribal queen Rani Durgavati was observed on Wednesday, with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav paying tribute to her courage, valour and enduring legacy at the main function in Jabalpur. He said Rani Durgavati was an embodiment of extraordinary bravery and the spirit of Nari Shakti, and recalled that although she was born nearly 500 years ago on the soil of Madhya Pradesh, she continues to be remembered with deep respect across the country.
Yadav said her reign marked the golden era of the Gond kingdom, during which she took several pioneering steps for farmers, including seed preservation, crop rotation and water conservation, while ensuring grain reserves remained well stocked.He said the state government remains committed to tribal welfare and is working in the spirit of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Prayas. Yadav announced that a proposal would be sent to the Union civil aviation ministry to name Jabalpur airport after Veerangana Rani Durgavati. He also said a ₹100-crore institution dedicated to her legacy is being developed near Madan Mahal and will soon be inaugurated. A zoo and wildlife rescue centre are also being developed in her name, while the 35th battalion in Mandla has already been named after her.
