Maruti asks staff to reduce travel, save fuel, WFH

NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday rolled out a series of austerity measures for employees and business partners, to formally respond to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to conserve fuel and reduce foreign exchange spending amid the ongoing West Asia conflict.In a post on X, the country's largest carmaker said management should conduct business in the "most productive and efficient manner", while minimising petroleum consumption and overseas expenditure. The company said it would revisit internal processes and improve efficiency across operations.The measures include restricting non-essential foreign travel, encouraging virtual meetings and institutionalising cost-saving practices across the organisation.

Maruti Suzuki has also pushed work-from-home arrangements in certain functions as part of the broader efficiency drive. "This is a timely opportunity to revisit and re-examine all our processes and make efforts to improve efficiency across all our business operations, whether it is for national objectives or our own health of business," said the company.Maruti's announcement comes as several Indian companies begin reviving Covid-era practices.
