Maruti Suzuki's new Escudo/Victoris SUV set to launch tomorrow: What to expect

India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki is all set to drive into the hotly contested

midsize SUV

space with the launch of an all-new model tomorrow. The SUV, expected to be named the Maruti Escudo (internally also referred to as Victoris), will be retailed through the company’s Arena dealerships, making it the most premium product yet under this retail channel. The launch is aimed squarely at rivals like the

Hyundai Creta

,

Kia Seltos

,

Skoda Kushaq

, and

Volkswagen Taigun

. Positioned between the Brezza and the

Grand Vitara

, the new Escudo is expected to offer buyers a more spacious alternative to the Brezza while keeping prices more competitive than Nexa’s Grand Vitara. On the design front, spy images suggest that the Escudo borrows heavily from the Grand Vitara but with subtle tweaks to its dimensions. Reports indicate that it may be slightly longer, translating into better interior space and possibly even a three-row seating option in higher trims.

Inside, the SUV is likely to feature a nine-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a semi-digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, and sunroof.Under the hood, the upcoming SUV is expected to carry forward the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol mild-hybrid engine, producing 103 bhp, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. A CNG variant could also be part of the lineup, though a strong-hybrid option, like in the Grand Vitara, may be skipped to maintain a clear distinction between Arena and Nexa offerings.Stay tuned to TOI Auto for latest updates on the automotive sector and do follow us on our social media handles on Facebook, Instagram and X.
