Mumbai Police are scrutinising newly surfaced CCTV footage that allegedly captures one of the attackers involved in the firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence.

Visuals show a man riding a scooter while wearing a mask, before the gunshots were heard outside Shetty’s residence.

The incident happened shortly after midnight on Sunday, when several rounds were fired towards the first floor of the nine-storey residential building.

One bullet shattered the glass of a gym located on the premises, though no injuries were reported.

Heavy police deployment followed within hours, with crime branch and zonal units sealing the area and combing nearby streets for additional footage to reconstruct the attackers’ movements before and after the shots were fired.

Police sources cited in multiple reports said the assailants had used a scooter to reach the vicinity of the building and parked it some distance away, after which one of them allegedly walked towards the premises and opened fire.

A case was registered on a complaint filed by Shetty’s security guard and booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to murder, along with sections of the Arms Act.

Five suspects were later detained in Pune and were brought to Mumbai, where four were formally arrested by the Anti-Extortion Cell of the city crime branch and remanded to police custody till February 5.

Those detained included Samarth Pomaji, Aman Marote, Aditya Gayaki, Siddharth Yenpure and Swapnil Sakat.

Shubham Lonkar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and an accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, remains wanted.

Hours after the firing, a threatening social-media post surfaced claiming Lonkar’s involvement and warning of further attacks, which investigators are now examining for authenticity and origin.

Meanwhile, news agency ANI quoted the defence lawyer for the accused as denying any association with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, saying the men were picked up after CCTV analysis and had no knowledge of the firing.

The lawyer added that the court had granted four days of police custody to allow investigators to probe the matter further, and that the accused were prepared to cooperate.

Pune Police’s Deputy Commissioner Sambhaji Kadam said the suspects had been apprehended from different locations across the city after Mumbai Police alerted local teams, while Senior Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi confirmed they were subsequently handed over for detailed interrogation.

Authorities said forensic experts and ballistic teams have already examined the scene, and technicians are now enhancing and synchronising multiple CCTV clips to identify faces, clothing, vehicle details and possible accomplices.

Security outside Shetty’s building has meanwhile stepped up, with officers maintaining round-the-clock deployment as the investigation continues.
