MCG issues 24X7 helpline number for quick assistance to report waterlogging

MCG’s Monsoon Management Cell to monitor round the clock rain situation

Gurgaon: As the city braces for another spell of heavy rain, MCG on Friday launched a 24x7 helpline (9821395354) for residents to report waterlogging, once again relying on a complaint-driven response in a city where flooding recurs at multiple locations every monsoon.Residents can report waterlogging via phone or WhatsApp, after which complaints are routed to field teams for immediate action, MCG officials said. To ensure a faster response, residents have been asked to share their exact location along with a brief description of the issue. The civic body has activated its Monsoon Management Cell (MMC), which monitors the city round the clock using citizen complaints, field reports and CCTV cameras.

The cell will proactively track flood-prone locations through live CCTV feeds and coordinate with field teams for swift response as soon as waterlogging is detected.Engineering staff, field teams and machinery have already been deployed at vulnerable locations and will be mobilised as soon as the complaints are received.“Employees have been instructed to take every waterlogging-related information seriously, and immediate coordination should be established with the concerned field team.

Information on the action taken should also be updated regularly so that the entire complaint redressal process remains effective and accountable,” said MCG additional commissioner Ankita Chaudhary after reviewing the functioning of the monsoon control room on Friday. The move follows years of assurances that the city would be better prepared for the monsoon. Yet key stretches such as NH-48, Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sohna Road and Golf Course Extension Road continue to witness severe waterlogging, triggering hourslong traffic snarls and stranding commuters. While the helpline aims to speed up responses, residents said it remains to be seen whether quicker complaint redressal will bring relief at Gurgaon’s chronic flooding hotspots, where recurring inundation has exposed persistent gaps in the city’s stormwater drainage despite annual pre-monsoon preparedness drives.
