Medical staff must act responsibly to build public trust: Eluru District Collector

Eluru District Collector K. Vetri Selvi and Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar on Wednesday (July 2) urged doctors and other medical professionals to function with accountability and responsibility, aligning with the government’s objective of delivering quality healthcare to the poor. They emphasised that no death should occur due to negligence on the part of hospital staff.

They were speaking at the government hospital development committee meeting here. MLAs Badeti Radhakrishna (Chanti) and Chintamaneni Prabhakar also participated in the review meeting along with hospital administrators and committee members.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that major issues at the Eluru district hospital have been identified and action is being taken to transform it into a model healthcare institution. She directed officials to send proposals to the government for the establishment of a cardiology department and to expedite appointments in the radiology department, including ultrasound and 2D Echo services. Until then, she suggested temporary arrangements be made to ensure uninterrupted service delivery to the public.

Ms. Vetri Selvi further instructed that the construction of the new government medical college be fast-tracked and warned that strict action would be taken against any hospital staff found negligent in their duties. Cleanliness on the hospital premises, wards and toilets must be maintained at the highest standard, she added.

Mr. Mahesh Kumar directed that medical reimbursement claims be resolved without delay. He also emphasised that no poor patient should walk away from the hospital without receiving proper care.
