Months after the alleged murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, his family has welcomed a baby boy and named him Raja, believing he has been reborn, reports said.

The child was born on Sunday to Raja’s elder brother, Sachin, who said a priest at the Kamakhya Temple had earlier told the family that the 29-year-old would be reborn, as his death was not natural, reports added.

Sachin cited the timing of the birth as significant. “Raja died on the eleventh day of the lunar fortnight at around 2:40 pm, while the child was born on the same day at around 2:42 pm," he said, according to reports.

Case Diary

Raja Raghuvanshi was killed on May 23, 2025, near Weisawdong Falls in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, in what investigators later described as a brutal murder. His decomposed body was recovered on June 2 after an extensive search operation by local police.

His family alleged that the killing was not spontaneous but a premeditated and ritualistic act.

Police subsequently arrested his wife, Sonam (25), her alleged partner Raj Kushwaha (25), and three others accused of carrying out the murder.

Following the crime, Sonam had gone missing and later resurfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, over 1,200 km from the crime scene, where she surrendered to police in the early hours of June 9, 2025.

In September 2025, Meghalaya Police filed a detailed 790-page chargesheet, marking the completion of its investigation into the case that had triggered nationwide outrage.

The police charged a total of five accused, including Sonam and Kushwaha, with murder, criminal conspiracy, and destruction of evidence.
