The Tripura police on Wednesday detained a mentally challenged man for allegedly trying to set fire to plastic waste on a railway track at Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district. His identity is yet to be known.
The police said the man was seen trying to set fire to some chips packets on the railway track at the Bishalgarh railway station when some locals caught him and handed him over to the police. “The person is mentally challenged. We have registered a general diary entry on this incident,” said an officer of the Bishalgarh police station.
No train service has been affected because of the incident, officials said. Several Demu trains and the Sabroom-Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express use this stretch. However, the express train was not running on the route as all long-distance train services out of Tripura have been suspended since Monday, after boulders and a landmass fell on the railway track in the New Haflong-Jatinga Lumpur section, allegedly because of improper road repair work undertaken by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
The Northeast Frontier Railway has cancelled the Guwahati-Silchar Express and Dullabcherra-Guwahati Express while short-terminating six other trains–the Sealdah-Silchar Kanchanjunga Express, Lokmanya Tilak Express plying between Agartala and Mumbai, Tejas Express connecting Agartala with New Delhi, Kolkata-Agartala Garib Rath Express, Cherlapally-Silchar Express, and the Silchar-Naharlagun Express. The Silchar-New Delhi PSK Express was rescheduled owing to the disruption.
