Mentally ill Bihar man traced to Roorkee, reunited with family

Roorkee: A 30-year-old man from Bihar’s Purnia district, who had been missing since June 12, was traced by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Roorkee and reunited with his family on Monday.Sonu Kumar, who was suffering from mental health issues, had left home without informing his family. GRP officials said Sonu’s wife, Runa Devi, accompanied by two relatives, approached GRP constable Chandra Kiran at Roorkee railway station on Monday after receiving information that Sonu was staying at a temple in the city.Acting on the tip-off, GRP personnel contacted the person who had shared the information and learned that Sonu had been staying at a Shani temple on Haridwar road for the past several days.

Officials said he appeared to be mentally unwell.“After completing the necessary formalities and verification, we handed him over to his family members,” said Girish Chandra Uniyal, in-charge of GRP outpost at Roorkee railway station.Sonu’s family hails from Srimatta village under the jurisdiction of Tikapatti police station in Bihar’s Purnia district.
