Kanpur: The citizens of Kanpur Division on Tuesday experienced intense heat as the day mercury climbed to 38.4°C, 0.8°C higher in comparison to Monday’s temperature.The India Meteorological Department has said that the heat may intensify further in the coming days and the temperature could touch 44°C by the end of this week.The minimum temperature also registered an increase and was recorded at 26.4°C, which was 2.2°C above normal. The rise in night temperature indicates that the coming nights are likely to remain hotter.According to Dr S Sunil Pandey, weather expert at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, dry weather accompanied by strong sunshine is expected in the Kanpur division on Wednesday.He said that a gradual rise in day temperatures is likely to continue in the coming days and the heat will intensify further.South-eastern winds blowing at a speed of 5.4 to 11.3 km per hour swept across the division and created heatwave-like conditions. Dr Pandey said that a western disturbance is presently active over northwestern India, resulting in thunderstorms and strong winds from mountainous regions to the plains including Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.
