Meta has acquired the AI startup Gizmo, founded by former Snap engineers, to bolster its artificial intelligence capabilities. Facebook-parent Meta has hired the team behind the AI startup Gizmo, a company created by former engineers from Snap Inc., reports Business Insider. Gizmo was developed by Atma Sciences Inc.
, a startup founded in 2024. The move is part of Meta’s efforts to expand its artificial intelligence work and hire experienced AI engineers. As per the report, a Meta spokesperson confirmed that the team joined the company earlier this year, though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.The team is expected to work within Meta’s Superintelligence Labs unit, which focuses on advanced AI systems.

Meta said the Gizmo team will join its Superintelligence Labs unit.
The division is led by Alexandr Wang, founder of Scale AI, and Nat Friedman, former CEO of GitHub.The company has recently increased hiring and investments in AI. Last year, Meta took a major stake in Scale AI and also acquired Manus, a Singapore-based developer of agentic AI systems.
Startup behind Gizmo
As mentioned above, the Gizmo product was created by Atma Sciences, a New York-based company founded in 2024. According to public information and LinkedIn profiles, the team includes Josh Siegel as CEO and Daniel Amitay as CTO, along with engineers Brandon Francis and Rudd Fawcett.
Many members of the team previously worked at Snapchat.Gizmo allows users to create interactive digital content by typing prompts. The system uses AI to generate small interactive experiences, such as mini games or simple applications. For example, users can create small animated elements that respond to touch or movement on the screen. The app also includes a scrolling feed where people can browse interactive posts, similar to the format used by short-video platforms.According to a 2025 filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Atma Sciences raised about $5.48 million from investors. Venture capital firms First Round Capital and Uncommon Projects have listed Atma Sciences among their portfolio companies.
