New Delhi: The entry of Meta Platforms (MPLS) into the cloud computing market will create a new impetus in the competition between the two major business conglomerates of India, the Adani group, headed by Gautam Adani, and the group led by Mukesh Ambani, called Reliance Industries.
According to a report, Meta is planning to rent out its extra AI computing power to businesses. That would give the company the opportunity to generate revenue from the vast array of AI-powered resources it has at its disposal and to get into the game of cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. The transfer is also likely to have a big impact in India, where Jio-in Start’s Reliance and Adani are betting billions of dollars on data centers that are in the process of becoming AI-ready. The demand for these facilities has been growing because, as organizations increasingly start to develop and adopt AI tools, they require more computing resources.
Meta has already ruled over Reliance Industries. The US tech company in June 2026 is pledging to lease an AI-powered data center being developed by Jamnagar-headquartered Reliance in Gujarat. The development of this project is anticipated to play a vital role in advancing the capabilities of Meta’s AI services and contributing to India’s ever-expanding digital ecosystem. The alliance might offer Reliance a head start in India’s rapidly evolving AI infrastructure market. Additionally, businesses seeking to leverage Meta’s AI services can also opt for Reliance’s data centers in India, particularly for data sovereignty and regulatory compliance with India’s laws.
At the same time, the Adani Group is pouring money with a lot of vigor into the sector. The company has said that it will spend approximately $100 billion on renewable energy and AI-ready data centers. There were earlier reports that Adani was seeking partnerships with big tech firms such as Meta and Google to grow its Data Center operations. India is fast emerging as one of the fastest-growing markets for AI infrastructure. As demand for AI and cloud services grows, the global tech giants are upping their investment in the country, including but not limited to investments by the likes of Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Meta. India has the potential to be a key data center market in the coming decade, experts said.
Meta’s cloud endeavor is yet to be fully formed, but growth may change India’s AI landscape. As the company gears up for a further foray into India’s AI infrastructure space, the tie-up with Reliance also means that it’s gaining strength on the competition front from other business giants like the Adani Group. This competition likely will have a significant impact on India’s digital destiny as the benefits of AI penetrate more industries, and the use of greater AI likely will drive even lower-cost alternatives out of business.
