Amid LPG Concerns, Union Home Secretary Calls for Daily Monitoring and Public Awareness

Amid gas cylinder shortage concerns, The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed states and Union Territories to tighten security at LPG plants, distribution networks, and transport systems, while taking strict action against hoarding or black-marketing of cooking gas cylinders.

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a two-hour meeting with Chief Secretaries and DGPs of all states and Union Territories to review preparedness and ensure uninterrupted domestic LPG supply. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including secretaries of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Information and Broadcasting, and Consumer Affairs.

States and UTs were instructed to tighten security around LPG infrastructure, including bottling plants, distribution networks, and transport vehicles. They were also asked to monitor local supplies daily and take strict action against violations or black-marketing.

The Ministry of Home Affairs urged states to launch awareness campaigns through oil marketing companies and monitor social media to remove fake news or recycled videos that could cause panic.

Refineries and petrochemical complexes have been directed to maximise LPG production and prioritise households. Curbs on commercial supply do not apply to hospitals or educational institutions. A strengthened 24×7 MHA Control Room coordinates fact-checking and real-time clarifications.
