Premier League leaders Arsenal had to settle for a draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in a high-stakes match against Chelsea, resulting in a 1-1 tie. Despite being reduced to 10 men after Moises Caicedo received a red card in the first half, Chelsea took the lead through Trevoh Chalobah in the 48th minute. However, Mikel Merino equalised for the Gunners with his strike in the 59th minute.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who was without the services of Gabriel and William Saliba, stated that his team’s effort to bounce back from a goal deficit after a long week, which included their win over Bayern Munich, was admirable.
“It’s been a big week," he began.
“The derby, how emotional and the necessity to win, then Bayern Munich.
“We lost players in those games. Today we had to play a partnership we haven’t played before in a really difficult match," the Gunners boss continued.
“The team had to react to that. It’s been a positive week because the difficulty was immense. But I have this flavour that today we should have won the game, and we haven’t," the Spaniard explained.
“It’s been a headache because we have to have a lot of option and changes in the last few months. Saliba was unexpected. Today was a great learning match for all of us," Arteta said.
Arsenal moved five points clear of second-placed Manchester City and stayed six ahead of third-placed Chelsea. Aston Villa, who posted a 1-0 win over Wolves thanks to Boubacar Kamara’s lone strike stad fourth with 24 points, two ahead of fifth placed Brighton, who also picked up a win on the road at Nottingham.
Newly promoted Sunderlad stand sixth, level on points with Brighton, but behind on goal difference, with Manchester United in sixth with 21 points to their name following their come-from-behind win at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace.
