Mikel Oyarzabal started as a striker for Spain in their second Group H match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Sunday (June 21) and scored twice against Saudi Arabia in the first half at Atlanta Stadium. The Real Sociedad star netted his first goal in the 21st minute and added another in the 24th minute. Defender Aymeric Laporte provided the assist for Oyarzabal’s opener, while Dani Olmo set up his second goal.
Before getting on the scoresheet himself, Oyarzabal also assisted Lamine Yamal’s maiden FIFA World Cup goal in the 10th minute of the match.
By scoring two goals and providing an assist within the opening 25 minutes, the 29-year-old entered his name in the record books. He became only the second player in FIFA World Cup history to be involved in three goals within the first 25 minutes of a match.

The first player to achieve the similar feat (involvement in three goals in opening 25 minutes of FIFA World Cup match) was László Fazekas. During the 1982 FIFA World Cup match between Hungary and El Salvador at Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero in Elche, Fazekas registered one goal and two assists within the opening 24 minutes of the contest.
In that match, Fazekas assisted Tibor Nyilasi’s opening goal in the fourth minute and Gábor Pölöskei’s strike in the 11th minute before scoring himself in the 24th minute.
