The wait is nearly over, and Minecraft's Chaos Cubed update is set to release on June 16, 2026, arriving as Java Edition 26.2 and Bedrock Edition 26.30. This is going to be the second major drop of the year and follows up on the Tiny Takeover update that arrived back in March 2026.
The new Chaos Cubed update brings the sulfur cube mob, sulfur caves, geysers, new blocks, and Parties for Bedrock Edition. What is the Minecraft Chaos Cubed update?
The Minecraft Chaos Cubed update is the second numbered game drop of 2026.
Mojang has essentially shifted away from its once-a-year update cycle to releasing smaller drops throughout the year, following a quarterly cadence.The centerpiece of the update is the sulfur cube, which is a passive mob that bounces around sulfur caves until a player feeds it a block, with the ingested block giving the cube a different property. You can also pick up sulfur cubes in a bucket to transport them. The update also introduces the sulfur caves biome, along with new sulfur and cinnabar blocks and their respective variants. Outside the sulfur content, the update includes a new Bounce music disc and a new Parties feature for Bedrock that allows players to join groups of up to 15 friends
Minecraft Chaos Cubed Java vs. Bedrock
If 26.2 looks unusual compared to the old "1.x" scheme, that is by design. In December 2025, Mojang retired the long-running "Minecraft 1.x.x" numbering and switched to a year.drop.hotfix format. Bedrock continues to count from a higher base, which is why this same drop is Bedrock 26.30 rather than 26.2. Both versions will be released simultaneously on June 16.
