Shiva Keshava Machani, a miniature artist from Yemmiganur in Kurnool district, who has made it to the India Book of Records and the Guinness Book earlier, has recently been honoured with the Ugadi Puraskarams for his contribution to this art form over the past 12 years.
Mr. Shiva Keshava specialises in intricate miniature carvings on chalk pieces. His work focuses on precision, patience, and transforming small materials into detailed artistic creations.
Explaining about his journey, Mr. Shiva Keshava said his penchant for the art began during his Class VII, inspired by a Telugu lesson titled ‘Shilpi’.
“I started with simple carvings on chalk pieces, and my Telugu teacher, Eranna, encouraged me to continue,” he said.
Mr. Shiva Keshava practised and honed his skills and progressed from basic 2D carvings to highly detailed 3D miniature structures, including intricate facial carvings.
In March, 2024, he was recognised by the India Book of Records for creating a 7 mm miniature replica of the ICC World Cup Trophy, using a single toothpick.
To achieve global recognition, Mr. Shiva Keshava applied for the Guinness World Records, but failed in his first attempt in 2024 due to technical guidelines.
“In the attempt on August 24, 2025, I created the smallest nautical knot board, featuring 14 essential knots such as the Bowline, Clove Hitch, Figure-Eight, and Carrick Bend. Each knot was crafted with extreme precision at a miniature scale. At the centre of the board, I incorporated a finely designed nautical helm made of silver, adding authenticity and artistic value to the work,” he said and this made him enter the Guinness Book of Records.
The announcement of his achievement was made on February 11, 2026. Recognising his contribution to miniature art on chalk pieces, he was honoured with the Ugadi Puraskarams 2026. He received the award from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Mr. Shiva Keshava said that he would continue inspiring students and youth by promoting creativity, discipline, and dedication through his work.
