Minor clash turns violent in Uttarakhand's Manglaur; 2 injured, 3 arrested

ROORKEE: A minor dispute between two groups escalated into violent clashes involving stone-pelting and alleged firing in the densely populated Qila Mohalla area of Manglaur on Sunday night, leaving two youths injured.

Police, however, denied that any firing took place. According to locals, the incident began on Sunday morning when a pedestrian was accidentally nudged by an e-rickshaw. Enraged, the man allegedly assaulted the driver, who later approached the police to file a complaint. Tensions rose during the day as neighbours of the rickshaw driver allegedly continued to provoke him, claiming that police would not take any action against them.

Both groups are residents of Qila Mohalla.

Around 8pm, the two groups confronted each other again, leading to a physical altercation. They began hurling bricks at each other, and locals claimed that three rounds were fired in the air. No serious injuries were reported. Though no formal complaint has been filed by either group, police arrested three individuals—Firoz Khan, Munna Naushad, and Sajid—under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for attempting to commit a cognisable offence and disturbing public order. Authorities are reviewing mobile footage and CCTV clips. Both groups have reportedly gone into hiding. “What began as a personal argument turned into rioting. Both sides resorted to violence, endangering law and order. We will take strict action against everyone involved,” said SP (Rural) SC Suyal.
