Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader Brinda Karat has said that the minorities and the Constitution of the country have come under attack under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre.

The arrest of Keralite nuns in Chhattisgarh’s Durg on alleged charges of trafficking and religious conversion was not an isolated incident, she said at a meeting organised by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) here on Tuesday (August 12) against the “anti-people policies” of the Union government.

She said that the Bajrang Dal and other such fascist organisations were spearheading such attacks with the tacit support of the BJP-led government.

N. Arun, Ernakulam district Secretary of the Communist Party of India, presided. S. Satheesh, CPI(M) Ernakulam district secretary, C.N. Mohanan, member of the CPI(M) State secretariat, and Mayor M. Anilkumar attended.
