Sources said the man has been detained and is being interrogated further, as investigators suspect the possible involvement of other family members as well.

What initially appeared to be a kidnapping case involving a 10-month-old girl in Mukundpur in northwest Delhi took a shocking turn on Sunday after police allegedly uncovered the involvement of the child’s father in her murder, police sources said.

According to sources, the accused allegedly gave his wife and elder daughter food or a drink laced with some kind of substance to make them unconscious before allegedly killing the infant on Saturday night.

Police began suspecting the father’s version of events during questioning, which eventually led to revelations about his alleged role in the crime, the sources added.

The accused reportedly confessed to killing his younger daughter and disposing of her body in a septic tank. A search operation is currently underway to recover the body.

Sources said the man has been detained and is being interrogated further, as investigators suspect the possible involvement of other family members as well.

Earlier on Sunday, police had launched a search after the family claimed the child had gone missing while her father had stepped out to buy milk in the morning.

Speaking to reporters, the child’s grandfather said that his son returned home only to discover that the baby was missing.

The child’s mother, Surya, stated that when her husband came back, he found both her and their elder daughter unconscious.
