Missing infant recovered after a week in Chatra, aunt arrested

A missing infant boy, abducted by his aunt from his mother's bedside in Kadhe village, was safely recovered after a week. The aunt, Sugiya Devi, was arrested for allegedly taking the six-month-old after a dispute over a promised handover. Police located the child at her parental home in Meghabar village.

Chatra: An infant boy, who went missing from home a week ago, was recovered on Monday. The infant’s aunt, who had allegedly stolen him from his mother while she was asleep, was arrested.

The incident took place at Kadhe village under Manghaniya panchayat.On December 10, Kadhe resident Saroj Kumari lodged an FIR with Lawalong police stating that one of her infant twins was missing from her bedside. Saroj had found the six-month-old boy missing when she woke up on the night of December 9 to feed them.After she raised an alarm, her family members and the locals searched the house and the village through the night but could not locate the child.

Saroj’s family members told the police that they suspected someone from the family behind the incident.The police, during its investigation, found out that the child had been taken by his aunt Sugiya Devi to her parental home in Meghabar village under the Kunda police limits. Prashant Mitra, the officer in-charge of Meghabar village, said Sugiya’s paternal home was raided and the child was recovered safely. “The woman has been arrested," Mishra said. In her statement, Sugiya claimed that Saroj had allegedly promised to hand over one of her boys to Sugiya.

When she refused later, Sugiya abducted the child.
