Nayan Das' body was found hanging from a tree after three days.

Police in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday recovered the body of a man from a remote hilly area in Khurushkul, three days after he went missing.

The deceased, identified as Nayan Das, was a ‘sebait’ (custodian) of the Shor Ghona Nag Panchami Temple in the Purbo Hamzar Dail area, police said.

Locals and temple associates later discovered his body hanging from a tree in a nearby hilly area. Eyewitnesses said the body was in a decomposed condition when found.

According to police speaking to Bangladeshi media , the locals spotted the body on Wednesday afternoon and informed authorities. Das, a resident of Fultala village in Satkania upazila of Chattogram district, had been missing since April 19.

Family members said two unidentified men had come to his house that night and asked him to accompany them. Das left with them and did not return. When he remained missing, his wife began searching nearby areas and reportedly found some of his last worn clothes near a jungle, after which she alerted the police.

Police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. “It will be known after the autopsy report whether it was a murder or suicide," a local police officer said.

The Police said that investigators are examining all aspects of the case, including how and why the incident occurred at that specific location.
