Madanapalle Institute of Technology and Science Deemed to be University (MITS) and Annamayya district police partnered on Saturday to host a 3K run themed “Say No to Drugs – Yes to Life”, aimed at educating students and youth about the dangers of drug abuse.
Addressing the gathering, MITS Vice-Chancellor C. Yuvaraj said the programme was organised to educate students about the danger of drugs and to encourage them to lead a healthy life. Annamayya district Superintendent of Police (SP) Dheeraj Kunubilli, who was the chief guest, stressed that drug abuse ruins students’ future and destroys families and society
He advised students to stay away from drugs and focus on sports, exercise, and positive thinking for a healthy lifestyle. The SP further urged them to aim for academic excellence and cautioned that drugs could derail them from achieving their goals.
The SP also said that they could contact the police if any student was found to be addicted to drugs and assured that the information would be kept confidential. By sharing such information, one would be helping a family, he said.
He said the objective of the programme was to guide the youth on the right path and create awareness. As part of the programme, MITS students performed a skit on the dangers of drugs at MITS MSR club, following which the SP flagged off the run.
The programme was attended by registrar D. Pradeep Kumar, principal P. Ramanathan, advisor (R&D) R. Thulasiram Naidu, faculty members, and many students.
