MLA Vishawajeet Kadam, MP Vishal Patil lead protest march of farmers opposing Shaktipeeth h’way

Kolhapur: Congress MLA Vishwajeet Kadam and Sangli's independent MP Vishal Patil led the protest march in Kadegaon town of Sangli district strongly opposing the proposed Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway passing through the region.Veteran activist Bharat Patankar also accompanied the leaders in the protest march of the farmers. “We asked for alignment, the officials are not ready to give it. The highway is proposed only for money. We can reach the Shaktipeeths by using the existing roads. We can reach Pandharpur, Tuljapur, Mahalaxmi using the existing roads. We are going to raise the demand of the farmers to cancel the proposed highway during the state legislative assembly session starting from Monday,” Kadam, who represents the Palus-Kadegaon assembly constituency, said.MP Vishal Patil alleged that by using heavy police force, the survey of the proposed alignment is being carried out in dark. He said that the farmers have made their land fertile generations after generations and the govt wants to destroy these fertile lands.“Do not let the survey happen. If the survey is done, govt will deposit the money into the banks accounts of the farmers and will carry out the land acquisition and if required they will do it by using force,” said Patil.
