MNS workers vandalized Sushil Kedia's Mumbai office after his social media post sparked outrage for claiming he lived in the city for 30 years without learning Marathi. MNS leaders responded sharply, with some threatening action.
MUMBAI: MNS workers on Saturday vandalised the Mumbai office of entrepreneur and investment analyst Sushil Kedia, day after his social media post claiming he had lived in the city for 30 years without learning Marathi.
Kedia, in a post on X, had written: “I don’t know Marathi properly even after living for 30 years in Mumbai. Threatening me by 100 of your party workers is not going to make me a fluent Marathi speaker.” Tagging MNS chief Raj Thackeray, he dared the party to act against him.
His remarks drew a sharp response from MNS leaders. While the party officially distanced itself from any direct threat, its general secretary Manoj Chavan posted on X: “If you live in Maharashtra and act superior by not speaking Marathi, I’ll give you a tight slap!” MNS Mumbai president Sandeep Deshpande added: “Do business if you’re a businessman, don’t try to act like our boss.
If you insult Marathi in Maharashtra, you’ll get a slap.
Otherwise, stay in your lane, Mehta or whoever.”Following the vandalism, Kedia posted on X tagging Maharashtra deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Union home minister Amit Shah and Mumbai Police, claiming he was being tracked: “I’m receiving calls from several police stations… offering protection but under that pretext, they’re asking for my location. This appears to be a dirty operation already underway, baying for my blood.”
BJP MLA Narendra Mehta condemned the incident, saying, “Pride in Marathi, but not by forgetting the limits of humanity.”Kedia also reposted BJP minister Nitesh Rane’s message, which read: “Those who raise their hands against poor Hindus should also show the courage to go to Mohammad Ali Road and beat up the jihadis! Because you never hear them speaking Marathi!”
